4th-7th May – Bra Bra Gran Fondo long weekend

Celebrate that “spring has sprung” and the reawakening of this amazing area as the vines begin to sprout new green leaves and the land is reborn after the winter snows. Our base for the weekend is the picturesque Barolo village with its century old castle and cobblestone streets in the heart of the vine covered rolling hills of the Langhe. Don’t be fooled though, those hills are steep and the word flat does not exist in these parts! We’ll ride out both Friday and Saturday with Sunday being “race day” with the Bra Bra Gran Fondo.

The Bra Bra event held on the first Sunday of every May is an institution in this area. It’s our local gran fondo and whilst you’ll be part of Experienceit you will also be participating as an honorary member of our local bike team Alba Bike Team. The Bra Bra course is more like a tourist drive than a gran fondo passing through amazing scenery that will take your breath away! Starting in the Baroque village of Bra (home to Slow Food) you’ll pass through the historical centre of Cherasco and climb immediately up to La Morra with breathtaking views of the famous Barolo wine producing area of the Langhe. Passing through the villages of Barolo, Monforte and Dogliani you’ll then descend into the valleys of the Alta Langhe where vines are replaced by the famous ‘gentile tonda’ hazelnuts. Here the climb get serious averaging 8% but the breathtaking scenery doesn’t stop as we head on to the Barbaresco wine area passing villages such as Neive voted one of the most beautiful village in Italy. From here we cross the river and climb again to the stately villages on the Roero side dominated by magnificent castles and views over the valley descending into Bra after an amazing 160km tour of one of the most beautiful areas in Italy!

And yes whilst there is a lot of talk about the riding, don’t worry you’ll also get a great taste of the other great attractions in this area, namely the food and wine!!! No hotel meals or paninis on our tours, no way. You’ll eat out at some of the great local osterias, head to some great wineries and on Saturday afternoon we’ll finish our ride with a picnic in the vines. So whilst you will be riding hard, don’t worry we’ll refuel you in a way that you’ve never experienced on any other “bike tour!” Remember our motto: serious cycling for serious foodies!

Packages include:

accommodation for 3 nights, local guides, vehicle and technical support, lunch and dinner each day in a range of great osterias and restaurants, winery visits, gran fondo entry, experience it kit and so much more!
